While searching throught my RSS feeds today I noticed interesting article/page with photos from Sony’s Blu-Ray factory! So if you’re interested in how those discs are made before you put them into your PS3 or Blu-Ray Player check this link (remember to look at descriptions below photo for more info):
Since I updated my iPhone to 3.0 I discovered few great applications (they were running on 2.2.1 as well but why to be bothered about this?). Today I tested out MotionX GPS. What is this? Simply it’s a tool for active people who want to track their moves while riding on bike, walking, gliding etc. and analyze their performance or simply share info with friends.
It has a lot of functions, for me most fun was map tracking and possibility to export my track to Google Maps or even Google Earth! You can easily set way-points, change routes, there is also compass function and lots of other functions. You can check your time, average/max speed and all that things in just one window. When you’re done you can simply export your data to e-mail with Google Maps link along with *.kmz and *.gpx files! There’s also possibility of integrating MotionX software with Tweeter and Facebook!
What is more, I’m using Beyza’s leather holster to keep my iPhone out of harm, so I ran some iPod, then MotionX and finally hid iPhone to holster (I thought it will loose signal etc.) but nothing like it! It kept signal all the way, to the end! I’m really amazed about this. I’ve also noticed photo mode (if it can point photos to way-points where they’re shot that would be cool!).
Software costs only 2,99$! So even if you won’t have fun using it, you really should check it out.
Yesterday I had opportunity to test out new Navigon for iPhone. Unfortunately weather was not so good since it was raining all day long and a lot of dark clouds gathered over city.
When I launched Navigon for the first time I was surprised how fast it works! Really it took like 3-5 seconds to load main menu screen. What is more software has great support for polish addresses base (being honest I was surprised as well), I followed some major roads and “wilderness” areas as well and it suited all of them! Unfortunately due to bad weather as I mentioned b4 iPhone’s GPS seem to loose position (2-3 times) which was annoying as hell.
When you get into main screen you can look for POI, type address or simply draw a map of area (there is also “take me home” button). After choosing location software takes like 5-10 seconds to start navigation (depends on GPS precision) I haven’t had any problem about it (still remember N95’s GPS warm-up).
Map lookout is pretty “clear” there are no buildings etc. just road but it’s very clear as I said. On some screenshots I saw FPP mode for motorways (maybe it isn’t supported in map of Poland?). What I noticed there are not many POIs. Mostly there are gas stations etc. (with animated icons). You can switch over navigation mode with camera after point to map mode, where scrolling and refreshing works amazingly flawless! This is what iPhone’s touch screen is!
I haven’t had opportunity to test out re-routing system because I followed track chosen by system, but as soon as I will test it out I’ll let you know.
Conclusions? Navigon as first real turn-by-turn GPS software for iPhone 3G/3GS seems to be pretty good. Of course it is not perfect as I expected and still needs some improvements. We’re still waiting for iPhone’s TomTom version and then we will see if Navigon can take up a fight.
Hi there folks. Today I decided to update my iPhone 3G to 3.0 firmware. I did it mostly in order to run new GPS software (Navigon for now and TomTom later). OS seems to be working fine:
Landscape keyboard finally (but still not in all apps, especially Palringo IM);
Built-in voice memos function;
It seems to work a little bit faster but ain’t sure about that yet (everything works fine until you won’t put 2GBs of mp3’s there;
Unfortunately after doing some JailBreak with redsn0w I occured some error with notes function (it simply doesn’t work), so I’m doing it again. I will post more thoughts soon.
Update Ok I JailBroken it again and it seems to work fine. Now installing Navigon (it’s kinda huge 1,6GB!). Btw BossPrefs has some bug, wifi toggle doesn’t work so I installed SBSettings which seems to be working great.
Update 2 Navigon installed. It seems to be working pretty fine, map refreshes very fast etc. Even addresses database is pretty fine! Stay tuned for more info.
Few days ago I helped my godfather (he’s no Mafia’s boss, so no worries (at least from I know)) to record a movie, with Robbe Gemini airplane model. It looks kinda cool, but being honest I noticed that surprisingly it works better on ground than in air (at least from mine POV)! So here’s the movie, hope you enjoy it and go visit the authors blog (check sidebar):
